After reading and researching for two months, I finally bit the bullet and bought the Miele Capricorn with SEB-236 power brush and the parquet floor brush. Our home has a lot of hardwood flooring and tile, five area rugs of various sizes and pile depths, and one small room with carpeting. I did a thorough cleaning for Easter, and my husband actually asked me if I had polished the wood floors, they looked so good. (No, I hadn't.) It's amazing what this picks up...I didn't realize what was being missed. The parquet floor brush is so flexible and efficient, it cut my vacuuming time immediately. And turns low enough to get under virtually everything in my house without moving furniture. Woohoo!
Also love the 'smell-free' exhaust and the ergonomic features...the telescoping handle for changing heights, the easy toe adjustments on the power brush for carpet height, and the snap on and off lever for the floor tools. Oh, and the clever carry slot on the side of the canister for the parquet brush when it's not in use.
Overall, I could not be more pleased. And if you can get past the cost, you will love it too. With any luck, this is the last vacuum I'll have to buy. OK, maybe that's optimistic...but it could happen.

This is a very sturdy machine. It is quiet, works hard. Range of motion is the best. SEB-236 power brush head is superb but a little heavy for a person who has arthritis (me). I like it very much. The power cord is a little shorter than expected.

Why in the world would you pay this much for a vacuum when you can buy one a 1/4 that price at a department store. Because YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!
I have a love/hate relationship with vacuuming. When they work well, you feel like you have a clean home, when they don't..... well we all know the drill. You take the machine apart. Clean it, change the belt, bag (or bagless container). As things break we tape it up, maybe drop some bucks on a vacuum repair shop (after all didn't we spend a lot of money on this vacuum a few years ago). Only to bring it home and have it only work marginally better.
I went down that road. I have lost count of how many vacuums I have purchased in my lifetime. Oh and the money I have spent. Then if you are lucky you get a couple of years out of it at most. My last vacuum lasted about 2 1/2 years and I spent more than $300.
After the last vacuum death I did some research. I read the reviews of the Miele vacuums. Nothing is that good...right? Beautiful machine, sure, but the price was a joke. No way would I consider spending that kind of money. It was my husband who suggest we try one out. He reminded me that we'd spent many times that amount over the years.
We found a local store and I spent more than a hour (I think I cleaned the whole store) trying out this vacuum. I test all the Miele's in fact, and I can tell you, once you put one in your hand, you know why people rave about them, and why they are worth the price. It is so well built. Really, really well built. It's quiet and you can clean anything: flooring using high suction, curtain on low, and everything in-between.
I have 2 dogs and a cat. I used to stress about all the hair, I don't give it a second thought because this vacuum handles it with ease and grace. It is so quiet that my dogs just ignore it. The vacuum bags are even extremely high quality. Nothing escapes. They slide closed automatically when you pull them out to change. Not a speck of dust inside where the bags goes....nothing....nada....It looks like it has never been used, and its has been used trust me. Oh and then it has a filter that is so amazing. It never any smells. They bags hold so much I can go months without changing it and you start it up and it smells pristine. Its worth the money just for that alone.
The tools don't appear to be anything special. The shapes look like everything else I have ever owned. But don't let that fool you. They work better, and they clean up perfectly. and the brushes do not wear down.
I am more than two years into ownership. At this point with my other vacuums it would be time to look for a new one. But this vacuum still feels brand new, and works as well as day one.
It was worth every penny. And in the long run, the cost to own this vacuum will be far less.
